The Outfit
This outfit was made out of a mix of fabrics and materials, a lot of which I already had on hand from previous projects.
I used patterns from Trines Treasury on Etsy for most of the outfit. I ended up purchasing these tights from Amazon rather than trying to sew my own.
The shoes were a pair of heels I already owned and I used scraps of the faux fur to construct pom-poms for the tops and stitched a keyring to the back/bottom to pass the laces through to attach them to the boot.
For the silver accents on the skirt piece, I used a silver foil HTV and Photoshop and created a design for cutting the shapes using my Cricut vinyl cutter (I’m going to link them here if anyone else ends up needing them! They’re not perfect, but they work).
The Bow
The bow is all 3D printed using PLA filament – it was printed as 3 pieces. The 2 bow arms measure about 28″ each and were printed as all 1 piece on a custom printer that I built myself. This prop was a bit more challenging for me to paint as I have a form of colorblindness called “tritanomaly” – which causes me some issues in differentiating between shades of blues and greens/blues and purples.
I modified this file to be a bit closer to what I needed for this project – namely making the hollow lotus glowers and adding holes for dowels to attach the hollow flowers to the bow. I modeled and printed some lotus-ish flowers using clear and pink PLA, and added pink/purple LED lights into for a glowing effect. The LEDs I used are these ones and the battery chasis are these ones. The battery itself is just a standard CR2032 battery.
Overall, I was very pleased with how this prop came out.
The Wig
The wig is the cheapest, clearance section Halloween wig that I got in 2017 from Walmart. Literally any long grey wig will work for this though!
I started by adding the braids to the front. I glued a long length of ribbon in the at the top, underneath of the weft. The ribbon was 2x as long as I needed it so that I could have it doubled over and glued in the middle so that 2 strands of the braid had the red accent in them. I braided them and made 2 gold bows out of some gold foil ribbon to attach to the end of the braid.
I added volume to the bangs by heating and teasing the hair after trimming it.
For the ahoge (the hair antenna), I teased and cut a length of hair off the underside at the back of the wig (where no one would see the length difference) and shaped it into the little swooping spike I needed. I glued either end of the spike to make sure it kept it shape through travel and wear.
To attach it, I applied glue to the part at the crown of the head and used a pin to keep it in place while I dried the glue with a hair drier. I touched it up with silver paint where the glue was visible to make it a little more seamless.
The flower was made of the same fold foil as the bows. I cut 5 2-inch lengths that I folded and glued into shape then stitched together. I added 2 lengths of a scalloped gold ribbon to the underside as accent pieces and added a fake pearl accent to the center to cover the seam. The horns and flower are both attached using brooch pin backs and attaching directly to the wig netting.
